When I saw the forecast I said:
“Ok… this is not a normal day.”
For the first time in 10 years (I missed Hercules in 2014) living in Sagres, the forecast was crazy: 8-meter waves, 16 seconds, west wind around 70 km/h. Roba rara. When this happens, Sagres change face completely.
The coast becomes something fu.....ing mesmerising, almost scary but beautiful.
I was super excited, but also clear in my head: this kind of day you need respect. Beach, cliffs, ocean no jokes and good advice for every adventurous tourist.
The Morning Storm Pioggia della Madonna
I woke up early, super excited. It was raining cats and dogs. I waited 5 minutes just to run to the car. Of course, rain came back immediately .
I drove straight to the hole where you see Tonel in front of Santo Loco. I could already see the waves, but the rain was so strong the cliffs were disappearing. Like magic.
Anyway — rain, wind, apocalypse I was going.
I went down at the parking forgot my lights on ahah, rain slowed a bit, and I walked on top of the small cliff above the Tonel beach. The conditions were crazy really crazy.
Wind officially 70 km/h, but the gusts felt much more. Standing still was already hard. Holding the camera still? Impossible. I was wide-leg like a surfer stance, trying not to fly away, shooting almost random, just trusting instinct.
And then… boom.
The wind was lifting the water off the waves and throwing it over the cliffs.
The Atlantic was not only hitting the cliff it was climbing it.
The Dragon
In the middle of all this chaos, I captured the image.
I call it “The Dragon.”
A massive wave explodes on the cliff, the wind grabs the water and throws it up, and suddenly the shape looks alive. Like a creature. Not planned. Zero control. This is the photography I love you cannot repeat this kind of things.
It lasted seconds.
When I clicked, I knew immediately this is a shot!
That one image made the whole storm worth it.

Moving Around – Fort of Sagres to Lighthouse
After that, I moved along the cliffs on top of Tonel right. A lot of people there, watching the sea, mouth open , every hit was a lot of water. I took some photos, hiding down a fishermen path but honestly, nothing too good… they didn’t feel as special I am too used to this perspective i believe...

So I moved again.
Up and down the coast, toward the Sagres lighthouse. Waves splashing even on top of the main cliff. Crazy power. But still something missing.
Then I went back to the classic crazy spot, where the water really explodes and everybody goes to scream “oooooh”.
That’s where I shot the Fort of Sagres, with waves smashing, water flying everywhere. Those photos feel heavy, strong, real.
My favourites are the close-ups of the water coming down from the cliffs, like rain from the ocean.
Why This Is a Limited Sagres Photo Print
Not every photo becomes a print. Most photos stay photos.
But some images have a moment inside. This storm, this wind direction, this light, this timing — tutto insieme — only for a few hours. You cannot order this again.
Two images will be printed big: 120 × 80 cm.Because this kind of power needs space.Smaller sizes exist, yes, but this one wants to breathe.
These are Sagres photo prints for people who know winter here.Or for people who felt it once and never forgot.
Fine Art Sagres Photo Prints – Ocean, Wind e Pazienza
Living in Sagres means living with the ocean angry, beautiful, dramatic. Winter storms shape the cliffs, the light, and also your character.
My photography is simple: be there, wait, don’t force, react.
This image, born during Storm Ingrid, is now available as a limited fine art Sagres photo print, printed with respect.
Another huge storm is already on the forecast for Wednesday.
I’ll be there again, camera in hand, probably getting wet like always. I’ll share stories and behind-the-scenes on Instagram.
Thank you for supporting my work. Every print allows me to continue this madness — storm after storm — buying cameras that get completely soaked. and Salty.\
Grazie.
I already sold 4 images from this day!
